ORGANIC - Milk Powder

Our Organic Non-Fat Dried Milk Powder is USDA Organic certified and produced by Organic Valley, the largest cooperative of organic farmers in the US. Organic Valley, founded in 1988, began as a group of family farms selling their produce it soon expanded in the production and local distribution of vegetables, and dairy products. Organic Valley is the nation's largest independent cooperative of organic family farmers and one of the largest producers and distributors of organic produce (in season), dairy, soy, and eggs. It markets its line of beef, pork, turkey, and chicken products under the Cooperative's Organic Prairie brand. Organic Valley comprises 1677 farmer-owners located in 32 states and three Canadian province that specialize in sustainable, organic agriculture practices.

Organic agriculture is rooted in the growth of the animal, plant or seed that is to be harvested. Guidelines for the growth and care of organic products were set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) upon the creation of the National Organic Program (NOP), which was passed on April 21, 2002.[6] Any farm that wishes to be certified as organic must meet the requirements of the NOP. Organic crops must be raised without the use of herbicides, pesticides, and synthetic fertilizers. They also cannot be treated with any chemicals post-harvest. Alternatively, livestock whose meat or milk are to be harvested cannot be treated with any antibiotic or synthetic hormones or ingest any genetically modified plants or organisms during their growth or milking years (all livestock food must be certified as organic). In addition to the growth of the product, the harvest and post-harvest treatment of the product is strictly regulated, prohibiting the use of some chemicals and post-harvest production methods.

Farms that switch to organic practices will not be certified as organic until three years after they stop using synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals. Thus, farms cannot simply alternate between organic and non-organic production when they wish due to this three-year "cleansing" rule.

Organic Valley is primarily run and owned by the farmers that sustain it. The company's income returns largely to the farmers and community in which the crops are grown, which is a contributing factor to the steady prices that Organic Valley attempts to maintain.

Use: To reconstitute milk use 10 - 12% of water weight in milk powder. Increase percentage to get a more concentrated milk or use dry for baking.
